引述現場目擊者的說法，皮內達重摔倒地後動彈不得，現場卻沒有人在第一時間上前協助，觀眾與在場人員起初皆以為這只是選手與裁判互動的「劇情表演」，直到眾人驚覺裁判毫無意識，醫護人員隨後趕抵檢視，才確認已失去生命跡象不幸身亡。
