《NBC》引述當地官員說法，該座位於埃斯帕托（Esparto）的煙火工廠倉庫，於當地時間1日傍晚發生火災，並引發多次大爆炸，縣府已對工廠周邊1英里（1.6公里）範圍內居民，下達撤退令。

當地警方呼籲民眾避免前往工廠附近，非必要別出入周邊道路，以利消防車輛救災。而從外媒拍攝的爆炸畫面可見，工廠已全面陷入火海，現場亦觀測到高達1.5萬英尺（4.6公里）的蕈狀雲。消防員目前仍在嘗試控制火勢。
