Following last year’s widely acclaimed production of The Little Mermaid, which drew significant attention and praise, Kaohsiung American School has once again raised the bar with this year’s Frozen musical. Featuring beloved music and a story cherished by audiences of all ages, the production builds on last year’s success with an upgraded scale and quality, once again igniting enthusiasm for the performing arts on campus.
This year’s production expanded significantly, increasing to four performances and involving a total of 101 students from elementary through high school. This cross-divisional collaboration not only highlights students’ diverse talents but also demonstrates the school’s strength in integrated arts education. Despite the increased number of shows, tickets sold out nearly a month in advance, reflecting strong audience confidence in the school’s high-quality productions.
Under the direction of Amber Lanning, students dedicated extensive time and effort to rehearsals and preparation, showing marked improvement in singing, dancing, and dramatic performance. Their character portrayals and stage presence were notably more refined and mature than in the previous year, showcasing both individual growth and strong teamwork.
Notably, this production also reflects the strength of the school community. Parent volunteers played an active role in backstage and on-site support, serving as an essential backbone to the smooth execution of the performances and contributing to the overall success of the production.
The production team also demonstrated a commitment to excellence in stage presentation. In addition to professional-level sets and costumes, this year’s design thoughtfully incorporated elements of Taiwanese local culture. Costume designs featured indigenous Taiwanese patterns, adding depth and cultural significance while enhancing the overall visual experience.
Furthermore, the production introduced concert-style light stick effects, synchronizing lighting with music to create an interactive and immersive audience experience. The atmosphere was vibrant and dynamic, with continuous applause and enthusiastic audience engagement throughout the performances.
Audience members noted that the production approached professional theater standards in performance quality, stage design, and overall creativity. It was not only an outstanding musical but also a meaningful showcase integrating art, culture, education, and community collaboration.
Kaohsiung American School remains committed to fostering well-rounded learning experiences. Through large-scale performances like Frozen, students develop confidence, expressive abilities, and teamwork skills. The success of this production not only leaves lasting memories for audiences but also marks an important milestone in students’ learning journeys, highlighting the powerful outcomes of collaboration among the school, families, and the broader community.
